William Popp Music Studio
Experience the joy of learning music with one of Colorado's premier teachers and performers.

General Information:

William Popp, director and founder of the William Popp Music Studio, holds a Bachelor of Music Degree and a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Denver; and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from The Catholic University of America.  He received a full tuition undergraduate grant and a full master's degree fellowship from the University of Denver.  Dr. Popp has served as President of the Loveland Area Music Teachers Association and as Music Theory Chair for the Colorado State Music Teachers Association.  He is also a member of the Music Teachers National Association.

William Popp played his first professional job at the age of fifteen and began teaching privately at the age of eighteen.  His professional experience includes a wide variety of styles.  For twenty years he was a performer and arranger with the United States Air Force Band in Washington, DC and has been featured on many recordings.  William Popp has received commissions as a composer and arranger, and has won national composition awards from Composers Inc. and the National Federation of Music Clubs.  He is the author of the Colorado State Music Teachers Association Music Theory Handbook.

Student Performance Opportunities:

Each year there are several performance options.  Students may, if they wish, perform at one or many of the following:  Achievement Day, Piano Festival, Master Class, Studio Recital, special events, LAMTA Honors Recital (if selected), and state competitions.

 Course Offerings:

All courses are taught privately and are tailored to help each student reach their maximum potential.

Beginner Piano:  Basic elements of music reading, folk melodies, simple original tunes, simple classics.
Intermediate Piano:  Finger building exercises, scales, extended folk music, mid-level classics; pop/rock optional.
Advanced Piano:  High level technique builders, arpeggios, complex classics; chord reading/jazz/pop/rock optional.
Beginner Accordion:  Basic music reading, bellows control, simple folk melodies, originals, and classics.
Intermediate Accordion:  Finger builders, scales, bellows shake, mid-level folk tunes and classics; pop/rock optional.
Advanced Accordion:  High level technique, complex classics and folk music; chord reading/jazz/pop/rock optional.
Composition:  Exploring creative writing techniques, phrase structure, melody, harmony, form, instrumentation.
Music Theory: Music notation, fundamentals of scales and chord building, rhythm, harmonic progression, arranging, counterpoint.
